What is a Disciple?
Have you ever wondered what comes after Easter? Two weeks ago we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Last week we considered how we might respond and live in a post-resurrection world? Many people and churches return to “business and usual.” But I believe, Jesus is calling us to something more. In the passage immediately following the Easter story according to Matthew, Jesus issues The Great Commission. “Go and make disciples of all peoples!”
But what exactly is a disciple? If were are going to make disciples, we should know what a disciple is. And, before we can make authentic disciples of Jesus, we would do well to be and become one ourselves. You can’t give away what you don’t possess. With this in mind, Grace Church will embark on a new adventure and sermon series this Sunday asking and answering the question: What is a Disciple? Together, we will discover from Scripture the qualities of true disciples.
Join us this Sunday to discover one of the most important qualities of being a disciple of Jesus, based on Acts 1:1-5. Worship begins at 10:00 AM with a blend of traditional hymns accompanied by organ and piano, and contemporary songs led by our acoustic combo. The message will be inspiring. Worship will be uplifting. Friends will meet you. Newcomers are welcome. Children’s Church is provided for children. Refreshments will be served following the service for all.
If you are considering membership with Grace Church, please join me for the Discovery Class which meets following worship from 11:15 AM to 12:00 noon in the adult Sunday school room. It’s a ‘safe place’ to explore this possibility and ask questions. All are welcome! Men are also invited to join together for prayer and mutual encouragement at 11:15 AM. It’s going to be another Spirit-filled Sunday at Grace Church. Please forward this email, invite a friend, and plan to join us!
