For All Who Are Thirsty

Have you ever been to the desert?  A few years ago I took a vacation to Las Vegas, Nevada.  I didn’t go to gamble but rather to use the city as a ‘staging area’ for several day trips.  I took charter bus tours with several others to the Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam, Zion National Park, and Bryce Canyon.  Each and every one was unique and beautiful.  But Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert.  And guess what?  It’s very hot and dry there!  In fact, one day we set a record temperature of 115° F! 

Water is the difference between life and death when in the desert.  I carried a water bottle with me wherever I went while in Las Vegas.  But the Israelites were not so fortunate.  In Exodus 17, they find themselves in the middle of the desert with no water.  They are thirsty and desperate.  It is a life-and-death emergency.  They complain to Moses, accusing him of bringing them into the desert to die.  Then, God miraculously shows up.  God produces water from a rock.  People are refreshed.

Maybe you’ve been wandering around in a “desert” of sorts.  Perhaps you feel dry and dead spiritually.  Things are not working out at work or school.  Your life feels like a dead end.  Life has become dull and boring.  You’re going through the routines.  You’re dry.   You’re thirsty.  You’re desperate.  The Good News is: God can do for you what he did for the Israelites of old.  This Sunday’s message, “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” will give hope to all who are thirsty.  Let your thirst be quenched!
