All In
Years ago I was flipping through channels on my TV when I came across a poker tournament. I don’t normally watch poker, but this one caught my attention. It was like the “Super Bowl” of poker games as the studio was packed with people watching a few contestants play their best hand. The stakes were high and about to get higher. One player decided to go “all in” when it got to be his turn. He pushed all of his chips to the center of the table and risked everything. It was all or nothing!
In Revelation 3:15-16, the Lord says to the church of Laodicea: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” It’s a sober warning that Jesus doesn’t want followers who are lukewarm or part-time. Jesus wants full-time followers who are “all in.” We are called to love God with all we’ve got – our heart, soul, mind, and strength. No holding back!
Our Lenten sermon series “What is a Disciple?” is not for the faint of heart; and neither is this Sunday’s message. So far, we’ve learned that a disciple is one who walks with God, waits on the Holy Spirit, and (this Sunday): One who withholds nothing. What does it mean to live full-time for Jesus? Join us this Sunday for a dramatic message highlighting three biblical characters, plus three key things disciples freely offer to God. Let us be disciples that go all in and withhold nothing!
Worship begins at 10:00 AM with a blended service of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. Don’t forget to “spring ahead” one hour ahead Saturday night so as not to be late. The message will move you. Worship will inspire you. Warm friends will encourage you. And, the presence of the Holy Spirit will warm your soul. Friends and visitors are welcome. Children’s Church is provided for kids. Refreshments will be served following worship. It’s a Sunday you will not want to miss!
