The Pilings of Your Life

Some years ago, I vacationed in Hawaii. Those of you who know me know that I love going to Oahu and staying in Waikiki. I’ve been there several times over the years. But the most recent time I happened to choose a hotel that was right next to a construction site. Each morning, I could see 50-60 construction workers gather, receive instructions, and begin work. The site became alive with moving cranes, trucks, and large machinery. Whatever they were building was huge!

One of the unpleasant things about having a hotel next to this site, however, was that workers were using large machines to pound huge metal tubes as pilings into the ground to reach the bedrock beneath Waikiki. The pounding was loud, booming, relentless, repetitive and annoying. It drove me crazy! But without those huge metal pilings drilled deep into the earth, the structure they were building would have been in danger of collapsing. The pilings gave it stability.

In a similar way, God calls us to anchor our lives deep into the bedrock of Jesus Christ. One of the ways we do that is with the help of spiritual disciples. These are regular habits we practice to grow in Jesus. And on this Discipleship Sunday, we will consider six of them. Six things everyone can do that will help you grow deeper and more stable in Jesus Christ. Sunday’s message, “Toward the Goal,” is for anyone looking for stability in their lives in this tipsy topsy world of tumult.

Worship begins at 10:00 AM featuring a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. We’ll also commission all teachers, leaders, and helpers as we begin a new season in our discipleship ministries. The message will inspire. The music will move your heart. And the fellowship will warm your soul. A Nursery and Children’s Church are provided for little ones. Refreshments will be served for all following worship. All are invited to join us and grow deeper in Jesus!
