Holy Work

You may not realize it, but the work you do can be holy and pleasing to God.  Whether it’s on the line in the factory, driving truck over the highway, teaching children in the classroom, being a bank teller, cleaning house, doing your homework for math class, handing out bulletins at church, sweeping the floor, or finding rest in your retirement – all of what we do on this earth is truly a sacred trust.  One of the primary reasons God created people is to work and take care of God’s good earth.

Monday is Labor Day.  On it we celebrate the American worker.  Since June or 1894, Labor Day has been a federal holiday.  It’s ironic that on Labor Day most people get the day off.  But it’s always welcome and well-deserved.  In keeping with the spirit of Labor Day weekend, we will focus on ‘work’ this Sunday.  In fact, I want to invite you to feel free to wear your work clothes or uniform, if you like.  If you are retired, see if you have an old uniform around that still fits.  We’ll honor workers this Sunday.

My message, “The Joy of Work,” will provide some straight-forward biblical teaching on work.  You might be amazed to discover what the Bible says about work.  It’s my hope that the message will help transform your ordinary and seemingly mundane job into a joy.  Whether you work full-time, part-time, get paid or not, volunteer at a local charity, serve your church, help a neighbor, are a student doing your chemistry homework, or are retired - Sunday’s message will apply to you!

Worship begins at 10:00 AM.  The message will inspire you.  Worship will lift your soul.  Warm friends will greet you.  And, the presence of the Holy Spirit will revive those whose hearts are open.  A Children’s Church will be provided for children along with Busy Bags for those who wish to remain in the sanctuary.  Men will gather for prayer.  And refreshments will be served for all following worship in the Fellowship Hall.  It’s going to be another Spirit-filled Sunday at Grace Church.  Don’t miss!
