Are You Hungry?

Isn’t it a thing of beauty?  This is a picture of the Mountain High Mud Pie on the dessert menu at Red Robbin.  Does it make you hungry?  Does it make you salivate?  It’s been a while since I’ve had one, but I can assure you, they are delicious.  Crumbled cookie crust, chocolate ice-cream, topped with whip cream and a cherry!  I don’t worry about the calories. I let myself go, indulge, and enjoy every bite.  In fact, I’m getting hungry for a piece as I write this now.  What are you hungry for?

People hunger for things like a Big Mac, a sirloin steak, thick Iowa pork chops, or a marinated chicken breast.  We thirst for things like a tall glass of water, a can of Dr. Pepper, ice tea, a glass of bubbling wine, or a foaming Guinness beer.  Still others hunger in a figurative sense for love, for a soul-mate, for affirmation, for a beautiful spouse, or for “Mr. Right.”  But Jesus appealed to another type of hunger.  Jesus promises satisfaction for our souls.  He addresses the thirst of the human heart.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”  It is the fourth Beatitude and the focus of this Sunday’s message as we continue our series, “The Upside Down Kingdom.”  Perhaps it is the longing of all followers of Jesus – that the world would be transformed into a place of righteousness and justice.  Let’s face it:  We live in a broken, fallen world.  Much is wrong with this world, our nation, the culture, and ourselves.  Yet, Jesus offers hope and healing.

Join us Sunday as we explore this topic more deeply.  Worship begins at 10:00 AM.  And we’ll feed ourselves with the sacrament of Holy Communion as well.  Worship will lift your soul.  The message will inspire you.  Warm friends will greet you.  And newcomers will be welcomed.  A Children’s Church is provided for little ones.  Refreshments will follow the service.  And The Discovery Class for inquirers will meet from 11:15 to 12:00 noon.  What a delicious Sunday morning on tap!
