A Great King

What do you think of when you hear the word king?  How about the word kingdom?  Kings and kingdoms are a relic of the past to most of us.  We remember learning about kings and kingdoms when studying medieval history in high school.  You know, things like palaces with motes and alligators.  Kings and queens engaged in conquest.  Or, you might think of the Magic Kingdom from a Disney theme park.  And if you’re hungry, you might be thinking about a Whopper from Burger King!

But real kings and their kingdoms are somewhat foreign to those of us who live in Western democracies.  In fact, we don’t want to be ruled by a king.  Nearly seven million people turned out last October 18 for a “No Kings” protest across America.  Kingship and being ruled by a king is not something we want.  Furthermore, kings often have bad reputations for oppressing the people, abusing their power, and becoming autocratic, merciless rulers over their subjects.

But there is a King who is different.  There is a King who uses His power for good.  There is a King who can be trusted.  There is a King who has your best interests in mind.  There is a King who rules over all earthly kings, and is truly the Lord of lords.  I’m talking now about our Lord and God, the King Almighty who created, sustains, and rules the universe with truth and righteousness.  “For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods” (Psalm 95:3).  Praise God there is such a King!

Join Grace Church this Sunday as we celebrate this great King on ”Christ the King Sunday”!  Together, we’ll review and rejoice in five things over which our King of Glory rules and reigns.  Worship begins at 10:00 AM.  The message will inspire.  The worship will lift your soul.  Friends will greet you.  A new member will be received.  Children will gather for Children’s Church.  Men will meet for prayer.  Refreshments will be served.  And, the Holy Spirit will move in our midst.  Come and be blessed!
